Italian FA (FIGC- AIA) launches first Nationwide Referees Course



Course is free and open to individuals of both sexes from 15 to 35 years old

AIA - Associazione Italiana Arbitri -have kicked off the first National Course for football referees. The innovative choice, designed and implemented by President Nicchi and his staff for the good practice of refereeing. The course will review the basic of refereeing from food intakes to the complete training process and it is run for the first time uniquely on a national scale, combining the cost efficiency of ! a capillary of 212 monitoring sections AIA scattered throughout the Italian territory.


The course is free to candidates of both sexes who are EU citizens in possession of valid ID, and non-EU citizens also have a regular residence permit, who have reached the date of the 15th year of age and aged under 35 years. After completing the course the candidate must pass a test of admission to the examination and testing, which includes written and oral test on the Laws of the Game of football and a fitness test. Passing the exam means being awarded the badge of "REFEREE" of the Italian Referees Association (AIA) and part of the FIGC and consequently can immediately start the activity of refereeing at the base level, the "Youth ".

During the first few matches the new referees will be accompanied by a tutor who will assist them in handling the paperwork and in the drawings of the match report. As for established practice, during the season the referees wi! ll be assessed by an observer of the AIA which will give repor! ts on th e new referees performance.

It has been a long standing well appreciated custom by the Italian FA (FIGC) to offer to anyone who is awarded the AIA Referee badge free entrance to all football matches in the country where the game is organized under the auspices of the Italian Football Federation. (ie: All Football Leagues, Serie A , B, Etc.)
